Cal Lane

Vancouver-born sculptor Cal Lane’s work is steeped in contradiction. By cutting intricate, lace-like patterns into industrial steel objects such as dumpsters, oil drums, shovels, and I-beams, Lane explores the dichotomy between feminine and masculine and challenges traditional gender stereotypes. These unexpectedly delicate works of sculpture juxtapose the perceived masculinity of steel with the traditional femininity of lace-inspired decorative patterns, urging the viewer to rethink long-established notions of gender binarism.
